The following is a primer for individuals desiring to host a concert.
Creating a NACUSA chapter allows your organization to host and manage concerts directly. This option requires incorporation at the state level, formation of a governing board, and approval from the NACUSA Executive Council and Board of Directors.
Benefits include:
Receiving chapter dues
Supervising and organizing your own events
Potentially using membership dues to support programming and events
Representation in NACUSA board voting
Organizations or individuals may request that an existing NACUSA chapter supervise and sponsor an event.
Benefits include:
Reduced administrative and business responsibilities
Guidance and oversight from an established chapter
Simplified event coordination
NACUSA is a non-profit. Presenters (the individual hosting the event) cannot solicit or receive compensation.
NACUSA programming should primarily feature works by living composers who are members of the hosting chapter.
Concerts should feature more than one composer.
Works by deceased composers may also be included; however, they should not constitute the majority of the program.
Performers may join NACUSA in order to participate in or present concerts; however if stipends/fees are going to the performer, the performer cannot host the event (but another NACUSA member may).
NACUSA is licensed to present performances only within the United States and its territories.
Concert program reports must be submitted by the deadlines established by the hosting chapter.
All programs and promotional materials should acknowledge both NACUSA and the hosting chapter.
Individual chapters may maintain additional guidelines or requirements.
Entry fees and ticketing must be coordinated with the hosting chapter.
Funding for events is generally the responsibility of the presenter.
Presenters may request stipends to help offset venue rental costs and performer fees.
